Orphans!!

James 1:27  "Pure religion is this, to take care of orphans and widows in their distress."  This verse always strikes my heart ... what exactly does pure mean?

I googled the definition of "pure" and here are some of the answers:  free from blemishes, absolute, clean, spotless, untainted with evil, free from foreign or inappropriate elements ...

Today on Orphan Sunday (again while worshipping) a truth hit my heart.  I believed this already but for some reason today it struck a chord more so than it has before.

GOD, UNLIKE US DOES NOT VIEW THE 143 MILLION ORPHANS IN THE WORLD THE SAME WAY WE DO.  HE DOES NOT SEE THEM AS ORPHANS, BUT INSTEAD HE SEES THEM AS HIS KIDS, AND HE IS HOPING THAT SOME OF HIS OTHER KIDS WOULD STEP UP AND JUST SIMPLY TAKE CARE OF HIS FAMILY ... THEIR FAMILY.

Were it not for orphan care, our sweet son Kody would not be alive.  That sounds really horrible to write, BUT IT IS THE TRUTH.  If Beacon  House and all of it's awesomeministries (including orphan care) did not exist, our Kody would not have survived past the first few months of his life.   

And were it not for foster care and the AMAZING AMAZING foster family that Kody had, it is hard for me to believe that he would be doing as well as he is physically and emotionally.  God used Kody's foster family to bring healing and to restore his life on every level.

And were it not for the miracle of adoption (in the midst of heart breaking and unjust situations), Kody would not be our son.  It is hard to predict what Kody's life and future would be looking like had God not interved so directly in Kody's life (and ours).

God does not think about His kids that don't have mommies and/or daddies only on Orphan Sunday, His heart breaks every day for His precious jewels that we the world view as orphans.  However on this NATIONAL ORPHAN SUNDAY, pray, pray, pray, pray, pray and pray some more as to how God is calling you to take care of His children ... our children ... the 148 million waiting orphans of the world.
